How Does Powder Coating Work?

Powder coating is a process used to apply a protective and decorative finish to metal surfaces. It involves three main steps: preparation, application, and curing. The metal surface is thoroughly cleaned and pre-treated during the preparation stage to remove contaminants such as oil, grease, or rust.

Next, the material, which consists of finely ground particles of pigment and resin, is applied to the pre-treated metal surface using a specialized spray gun. The electrostatic charge is applied to the powder particles, causing them to adhere to the grounded metal surface evenly.

Once the metal is coated with the powder, it is transferred to a curing oven, where it is subjected to high temperatures (typically between 300°F and 400°F) for a specified period.
